From the manual describes, as you can see. There are two significant reasons to know the serial number of your machine are:
1. On when ordering parts, you can give the number to your Yamaha dealer for a positive identification of the model that you have.
2. Then if your computer is stolen, the authorities would need a number to locate and identify your engine
